Sky Sports gets Bundesliga rights in UK/Ireland

Sky Sports, the UK’s pay-TV network will be the new broadcaster for the Bundesliga in Ireland and the UK after it signed an exclusive four-year deal for coverage.

Bundesliga International manages overseas media rights for Germany’s top 2 soccer leagues. It also covers the German Super Cup.

Sky will show Bundesliga matches across its linear channels. The channel will also make use of a range social and digital platforms to promote it.

Bundesliga International was also mentioned by the broadcaster, who said it will collaborate closely to create “innovative content formats” and “interactive experiences” for viewers.

Sky will launch its coverage with the Bundesliga opener on 13 August between Borussia Montchengladbach (Borussia Munchengladbach) and Bayern Munich (Borussia Dortmund). Eintracht Frankfurt against Borussia Dortmund will follow.

Each Saturday’s premier fixture will be shown live on Sky Sports Football Channel at 5.30pm UK. Other matches will be broadcast on Sky Sports’ digital or linear channels. Sky Sports YouTube also has access to the Premier fixture.

The network will also be showing the German Super Cup game on 17 August between Bayern Dortmund.

Sky Sports takes over the Bundesliga rights contract from BT Sport. The latest agreement expired after the 2020/21 campaign. Sky’s partnership with the German top-flight is also extended, as well coverage in the DACH and Italy.

Robert Klein, chief executive officer of Bundesliga International, stated, “This is a partnership which will deliver best of the Bundesliga week after week through world-class productions and multiplatform coverage.”
